Welding Automation for Excavator Bucket Assembly
Securing highly skilled welders has always been a concerning issue in manufacturing sites. HD Hyundai Robotics' welding automation solution enables more effective welding through sensing technology and mechanism control that enhance precision. In particular, by utilizing positioners and gantries for large components, it supports optimal welding across a variety of positions and angles. Donghae Machinery is a specialized manufacturer of heavy equipment parts and has improved production efficiency by introducing automation solutions from the early stages. We introduce the HA006B, which is carrying out welding automation.
Welding Automation for Excavator Bucket Assembly
The excavator bucket assembly is constructed from various steel plates, and durability is of utmost importance. HD Hyundai Robotics’ welding robots provide solutions for welding the tooth adapter to the bottom and side plates.

Key Advantages of HD Hyundai Robotics
-
Touch Sensing
Touch sensing is a technology used by welding robots to accurately identify welding positions before initiating the weld. By bringing the welding torch into contact with the workpiece, the robot detects electrical signals to calibrate the welding location. Using a wire-contact method, it identifies the starting point, welding line, and height, enabling precise adjustments and enhancing productivity.

Auto Nozzle Cleaning(Auto Nozzle Cleaning)
Auto nozzle cleaning is a system that automatically cleans the robot’s welding nozzle after a set period or welding pass. It typically utilizes wire cutters, brushes, air blowers, and silicone oil applicators to remove spatter (molten metal droplets) inside the nozzle and maintain the cleanliness of the electrode tip and nozzle. This improves weld quality and extends the lifespan of the nozzle and tip.
Multi-Axis Welding Using a 6-Axis Robot + Gantry + Positioner
By combining a 6-axis welding robot with a gantry system (linear axis) and a positioner (rotational axis), a multi-axis system is created that enables complex welding postures across a broader workspace.
01
A single robot can handle multiple welding stations, resulting in increased productivity and providing an ideal solution for welding large-scale structures.
02
By leveraging positioners, optimal welding positions can be achieved even in areas that are difficult for robots to access alone. This capability minimizes the influence of gravity, thereby reducing defect rates and ensuring consistent bead quality.
